All Rights Reserved 2010 Darren Chong Day 1: 14 October 2008 Arrival at Kunming City Clyde was up early around 6am. Everyone’s excited. In bed, there’s only Mui still snoring away. Luckily, managed to ‘breeze’ through the usual Clementi Jam to pick up parents at 8.15am Inconspicuously we reached Changi Airport’s Terminal 2 without hassle. We even have time to take Skytrain for joy trips. The SilkAir flight was packed with rowdy holidaymakers. I wasn’t surprise they are mainly in their twilight years. There are many retirees on this group tour to China. For SA UIC there are 20 of us, split up into 2 groups of 8 and 12. Then there’s a Gizmo’s travel group of 30, some of whom are Dad’s friends from the Chinese temple. What a coincidence! Eager and excited, we touched down at Kunming Airport on schedule. Automate the Tray Return Collection Point to facilitate fast efficient collection of crockery NEA’s TRAY RETURN INITIATIVE 10 Dec 2012 The recent pilot tray return initiative appears to have garnered paltry response with only 60 to 70 per cent of patrons returning their trays. One of these reasons could be due to the fact that collection point or station for the trays and crockery was already full and cluttered with used trays and crockery. It was so disorderly! On a recent trip to Europe, I have noticed an automated collection station where return crockery oand trays where diners returned them to an automated ‘conveyor belt’. The ‘conveyor belt’ system works no different from a factory assembly line where the trays and crockery were smoothly transferred into the kitchen or washing area where a few workers systematically get to work to wash the utensils. This time round it makes the victim (that’s yours truly) taking a risk of a different kind.   After last year’s adventures in the land of the Pyramids amid the Arab Spring revolution, we are going to fly some 11,000 km to Europe. I know either Dutch, nor French nor German, yet I am taking my family single-handedly on a trip, embarking on a journey to the Benelux countries (namely Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg), without joining a tour group or tour agency of any sorts, and foremost of all, without much fanfare.
